All Together under the Umbrella
All Together under the Umbrella
傘, the Chinese character of umbrella, contains five 人, the Chinese character of person, which explains why Hakka people view oil-paper umbrellas as a symbol of completeness, reunion, and affinity. As an artist with a Hakka background, Feng Cheng-Tsung specializes in interpreting traditional craft culture with modern and structural aesthetics. Focusing on the theme of paper umbrellas, the artwork deconstructs the umbrella structure and reassembles its elements through repetition and intersection. The art installation consists of three open umbrellas, inviting viewers to step inside and find a moment of rest, symbolizing the gathering of people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life.
