Crossing the Sea
Crossing the Sea
The squares of full sails in the artwork symbolize the journeys undertaken by Hakka ancestors as they ventured into different parts of the world. They explored the foreign lands with courage and determination and eventually settled down in the reclaimed land.
Standing gracefully on the lawn in front of the High Speed Rail Taoyuan Station, the artwork is presented in a light and fluid composition through digitally arranged sails that are crafted to resemble mountains and sea. The artist hopes that viewers will approach the artwork closely and experience the courage and resilience of our ancestors as they embarked on voyages across the sea into the unknown. The majestic posture of the artwork also serves as a metaphor to celebrate the revival of the contemporary Hakka community.
